Emergency Care at Wellstar
Across Wellstar Health System, we provide expert, life-saving emergency care that’s close to home, 24 hours a day. When you experience an unexpected health event, our highly-trained providers are ready with a full range of emergency services. Wellstar operates Georgia’s largest trauma care network. We have established the largest emergency department in the Southeast and the second largest in the country. Our well-trained team is here for you across eight emergency departments throughout metro Atlanta and West Georgia. We treat a full range of life-threatening emergency conditions, whether you are experiencing a heart attack or stroke, need emergency surgery or specialized care for a traumatic injury. At our Wellstar emergency departments, we treat patients of all ages and are well-prepared for the challenges which healthcare brings in each stage of life from infancy through older age. We offer women’s care which focuses on their specific needs and concerns. Within the broad net of our service community, you won’t have to travel far to find pediatric emergency care, as well, which gives our youngest patients specialized treatment options. Visiting any of our pediatric emergency departments, your child will feel better when they receive a kid-sized cast or height-matched crutches; you’ll feel better knowing their emergency healthcare is in compassionate, able hands. With more hospitals than any other system in the state recognized as Emergency Cardiac Care Centers, we deliver award-winning care with Level I, Level II, III and IV Trauma Centers and a dedicated Burn Center. The Joint Commission on hospital standards has designated many of our hospitals as Comprehensive, Primary or Remote Treatment Stroke Centers. Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center and Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center are Comprehensive Stroke Centers, and Wellstar Kennestone is the first in Georgia designated a Comprehensive Cardiac Care Center. We’ve been awarded high distinctions like the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, a congressional honor which recognizes quality management and performance excellence. Also, Wellstar is the first healthcare system in the nation certified by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), the premiere worldwide certification for Emergency Preparedness and Management. The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) has awarded their Lantern Award to Wellstar Paulding Medical Center. This award recognizes emergency departments that demonstrate excellent practice and innovative performance through leadership, education, advocacy, and research. Our experienced physicians utilize the most advanced technology to bring you the best results. Trauma Care at Wellstar
Trauma is often a part of an emergency health crisis. That’s why our Emergency Care Departments are specially equipped to handle traumatic injuries. Wellstar Emergency Departments have become recognized go-to facilities in Georgia and the country for trauma-related emergency care. Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center has earned the Level I Trauma Center verification from the American College of Surgeons and designation from the Georgia Department of Public Health State Office of EMS and Trauma—the gold standard for trauma centers nationwide. Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center has earned the Level II Trauma Center designation. Wellstar Cobb Medical Center is not only a Level III Trauma Center, but also a dedicated Wound Treatment and Burn Center. Wellstar Paulding Medical Center, Wellstar Spalding Medical Center and Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center are Level IV Trauma Centers. Trauma care encompasses a number of specialties with providers ready in an instant to take care of you. Interventions for traumatic injuries, including those from burns, falls, gunshot wounds and car accidents, are carried out by our trauma surgeons, poised and ready to meet moments of life-or-death decision making calmly and skillfully.
