Advanced Peripheral Vascular Care
Wellstar’s peripheral vascular care team helps people improve their symptoms and stop the disorder’s progression. Patients’ care teams can include cardiologists, radiologists and interventional cardiologists and vascular surgeons. We collaborate to provide the right level of care for people with peripheral vascular diseases.
Diagnosing peripheral vascular conditions
At Wellstar, you have access to specialized expertise and advanced technology to diagnose peripheral vascular conditions. Your physicians may conduct a combination of these tests to look for evidence of vascular conditions:
- A physical exam, using a stethoscope in specific areas, may reveal sounds or a weak or absent pulse that indicate peripheral vascular disease.
- Ankle-brachial index (ABI) is a test that uses a blood pressure cuff and an ultrasound device to compare the blood pressure in the arm and ankle. Patients may walk on a treadmill before and after their readings are taken.
- Ultrasound — such as Doppler ultrasound and other specialized techniques — can aid in the evaluation of blood flow through the blood vessels to identify blocked or narrowed arteries.
- Angiography tests allow your physician to see the blood flow through the arteries in real time with an injected dye and imaging techniques such as X-rays, magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) or computerized tomography (CT) angiography.
- Blood tests measure cholesterol, triglycerides and look for diabetes.
