Expert Trauma Care
Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center is the CSRA’s only Adult Level I Trauma Center—the highest level possible—verified by the American College of Surgeons. As one of only a few hospitals in the state to provide this high level of trauma care, we see more than 4,000 patients a year from Georgia and South Carolina. Children with traumatic injuries can receive specialized care at Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia, a Pediatric Level II Trauma Center. We are dedicated to rapid and safe patient ground and air transport for children and adults of all ages who are critically ill or injured. Through our partnership with Metro Aviation and Gold Cross EMS, our dedicated Wellstar AirCare helicopter services expand our reach in Georgia and South Carolina when minutes matter.
For over 30 years, our program has cared for people with life-threatening traumatic injuries. We treat patients with all types of injuries—and accept transfer patients who are brought to us when their injuries exceed the capabilities of other hospitals.
No matter the injury, we aim to provide patients with the best possible care. Here’s how we do it:
- Our trauma team includes board-certified trauma surgeons, with added qualifications as critical care surgeons, making them some of the most highly trained in the Southeast.
- Patients benefit from our fully equipped ICU that includes a 12-bed shock/trauma adult ICU, a state-of-the-art operating room, advanced technology and a dedicated trauma resuscitation area.
- Our 24/7 rapid response teams are made up of specialists in different areas, ready to provide immediate treatment to patients with complex, multisystem injuries.
- The Trauma Program team includes trauma program managers, a process improvement coordinator, trauma registrars and injury prevention specialists.
- We strive to reduce the incidence of traumatic injury through trauma prevention efforts including education, outreach and research.
