Diagnostic tests and procedures
To diagnose and treat your child’s condition, we perform progressive procedures in our clinics or hospital surgical rooms. These include:Clinic procedures
- Circumcisions: We can perform some cases in the clinic.
- Ultrasonography: To determine the cause of pain, swelling and infection and to evaluate organ damage
- Urine culture: To analyze the presence of bacteria in urine that causes infection
- Uroflow/electromyography (EMG), bladder scan and biofeedback: To determine the amount of urine in the bladder before and after voiding and the speed of urine flow. This helps look at the muscles used during voiding.
Radiological and operating room procedures
- Antegrade and retrograde pyelography: This radiological imaging test helps doctors diagnose hydronephrosis and urinary tract obstructions.
- Nuclear imaging, MRI and CT: These tests diagnose masses in the urinary tract, kidney stones and renal cysts. They also examine renal (kidney) function.
- Retrograde urethrogram: This procedure helps doctors evaluate and diagnose urethra complications.
- Fluoroscopic urodynamic studies (FUDS): These studies look at how well the bladder, sphincters and urethra hold and release urine. They also help determine the reason for leaks or blockages.
- Voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG): This minimally invasive test helps doctors see your child’s urinary tract and bladder. It helps diagnose vesicoureteral reflux and determine why your child has recurring urinary tract infections. We also use VCUG to find out if anti-reflux surgery was effective and if there are abnormalities or blockages of the urethra.
Pediatric urology surgery procedures
We perform open (traditional) surgery as well as the latest minimally invasive, robotic procedures. These include endoscopy and laparoscopy. During minimally invasive procedures, doctors use small incisions, thin tubes and tiny cameras to see inside the body and perform procedures.- Pediatric robotics: We have the only fellowship-trained, specialized pediatric urologist in the area who performs robotic procedures for children.
- Pediatric minimally invasive surgery (MIS): Our surgeons perform many diagnostic procedures and urological surgeries with minimally invasive techniques. We use the body’s natural openings or small incisions, which result in less pain and quicker recovery times.
