Pediatric anesthesiology provides pain relief and cares for babies, children and adolescents before, during, and after surgery.
Pediatric Pre-Op Instructions
Thank you for choosing Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia to care for your child. We love what we do and want to make your child's surgical experience as pleasant and safe as possible. We have included important reminders about eating, drinking, and illness below.

Reminders for parents and caregivers
Nutrition
- Food: NO food, candy, or gum for 8 hours before your scheduled arrival time
- Formula: NO formula for 6 hours before your scheduled arrival time
- Breast milk: NO breast milk for 4 hours before your scheduled arrival time. Do not put any additives into the breast milk such as rice cereal
- Clear liquids: NO clear liquids for 2 hours before your scheduled arrival time
- Examples of clear liquids include: water, apple juice, Sprite, Pedialyte or Gatorade
- Nothing that has pulp, dairy, milk or fat in it is considered clear liquid
- Chicken broth is not considered a clear liquid

If your child develops any of the symptoms listed below please call (706) 721-5229 between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, or email Lauren Welsh anytime.- Fever: Temperature of 100.4 (F) or higher
- Respiratory: Cough, runny nose
- Gastrointestinal: Vomiting or diarrhea
