Hospital Medicine
There’s a lot to prepare for when you’re getting ready for a hospital stay. Once you’re here, you want the assurance that you’re in capable hands. At Wellstar, our hospitalists work as a team to ensure you and your family receive accurate, helpful information and attentive care.
Hospital Care at Wellstar
Wellstar hospitalists are specially trained to support and complement your primary care and specialty doctors. They only work in the hospital and are available 24 hours a day, following up on your tests, procedures, treatments, and communicating with your physician. Hospitalists detect problems early and manage complex medical issues. They respond to emergencies and act as critical members of your care team, as well as nurses, social workers, pharmacists, advanced practice professionals and other physicians. Hospitalists help ensure optimum outcomes, coordinate care and focus on your healing and wellbeing.
Our Collaboration
Throughout your stay and after you’re discharged, Wellstar hospitalists will keep your doctor updated on every aspect of your care. This includes:
- Calling your doctor about important developments.
- Creating a discharge summary and sharing it with your doctor prior to your follow-up appointments.
- Notifying your doctor when you’re admitted to the hospital.
- Scheduling your follow-up appointment with your referring physician.

- Communicate with your nurses and other hospital staff.
- Communicate with your primary care physician.
- Consult with sub-specialists.
- Meet with your family.
- Perform your evaluations daily or more often.
