Our team’s commitment to innovation keeps us at the forefront of patient care. We were involved in the development of Gardasil, the HPV vaccine that can help prevent cervical cancer. And with state-of-the-art clinical trials through our exclusive partnership with Medical College of Georgia, we have access to clinical trials and new technology and treatments not available anywhere else in the region.Signs & Symptoms of Gynecologic Cancer
More than 100,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with gynecologic cancer each year. However, outside of a Pap smear, which screens for cervical cancer, no screening tests exist for gynecologic cancer. That’s why it’s important to be educated on the signs and symptoms—and to act on them. While many signs of gynecologic cancer could also be signs of other conditions, it is crucial to see your doctor for evaluation if any of these symptoms persist:- Unexplained vaginal bleeding or discharge
- Frequent urination
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Frequent bloating
- Chronic abdominal or back pain
- Unexplained pelvic pain
- Itching or burning sensation in the vulva
- Rash, sores or ulcers in the vulva
Types of Gynecologic Cancer We Treat
Our team provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of cancer of the female reproductive system.- Cervical cancer occurs most often in women younger than 50. Most cervical cancers are squamous cell carcinomas and adenocarcinomas.
- Endometrial cancer, the most common cancer of the female reproductive organs, is a disease in which malignant cells are found in the endometrium, or lining of the uterus. This cancer most commonly occurs in women after menopause.
- Ovarian cancer is a disease in which cancer starts in the cells of the ovary. There are three types of ovarian tumors, named for the tissue where they are found:
- Epithelial cell: Originates in the cells that cover the surface of the ovary. This is the most common type of ovarian cancer. Fortunately, most of ovarian tumors are non-cancerous.
- Germ cell: Starts in the cells that form eggs within the ovary
- Stromal cell: Develops in the structural tissue cells of the ovary that produce the female hormones estrogen and progesterone
- Uterine cancer can arise in the muscle layer of the uterus and look like a fibroid, which is a common benign growth in the uterus.
- Vaginal cancer is a disease in which malignant cells are found in the tissue of the vagina and patients usually notice abnormal bleeding.
- Vulvar cancer can occur on any part of the external organs, but most often affects the labia majora or labia minora.
