Cytopathology at Wellstar
At the Wellstar cytopathology lab, specialized pathologists study cells from body sites including the spine, lung and belly. The test is used to diagnose a suspected disease, like cancer, or to screen for a condition before symptoms appear. Compared with a tissue biopsy, a cytology specimen can be easier to obtain, less expensive and cause less discomfort to the patient. A commonly known cytopathology test is a Pap test, which screens for cervical cancer. Wellstar cytopathologists use the latest techniques to ensure accurate diagnosing and treatment.
