Anesthesiology
Anesthesiology is dedicated to total perioperative care for patients before, during, and after surgery.
Perioperative Care at Wellstar
Anesthesiologists are essential partners before, during and after surgery and other procedures where patients need pain management, general or local anesthesia or sedation. As key members of your surgery team, these specialized physicians work with your surgeon on a personalized pre-surgery anesthetic plan. Your Wellstar anesthesiologist is there to protect you at a time when you need expert care and peace of mind. The anesthesia team administers general anesthesia, sedation anesthesia, regional anesthesia (spinal epidural) or a local nerve block.
Surgery
During the procedure, anesthesiologists monitor your vital signs and oxygen levels. Afterward, they help control pain and respond to any issues like medication allergies or reactions.
After the procedure, your anesthesiologist continues to be responsible for your overall care. They will reverse the effects of the anesthesia and continue to evaluate and provide comfort through recovery.
Critical and Emergency Care
Wellstar anesthesiologists also play important roles in critical care and trauma. They assess, make diagnoses, provide support for breathing and circulation, and help to ensure that infection is prevented.
Obstetric Care
Anesthesiologists are involved in maternity units, where they administer pain relief, such as an epidural, and assist if complications arise. An epidural supplies anesthetic medicines to the lower back to reduce the pain felt from contractions. If a cesarean section is needed, stronger anesthetics can be given in the same location, to numb the lower body entirely for surgery.
