Adolescent School Health Programs
Healthy Choices for the Future
The following free programs are designed for grades 6-8 and are intended to increase students' understanding of the critical importance of nutrition, physical activity and injury prevention. All programs meet the Georgia Performance Standards.

Advance registration is required. Please call at least six weeks in advance to schedule a program for your class.
Countdown2Drive
This 45-minute presentation is centered on enhancing appropriate decision-making skills through a core reality of American Life: The Car.
- Countdown2Drive helps adolescents earn trust and build respect.
- The program utilizes real life scenarios to prepare students for responsible decisions on and off the road, creating mutual respect as today's younger teens move closer to becoming tomorrow's drivers.
- By fully understanding Georgia Laws, students will be able to determine outcomes and consequences regarding driving, and how to prevent injury when driving a car and having other passengers in the vehicle.
Good Food 4 Life
This 45-minute presentation focuses on nutrition and the importance of making good choices.
- 6th-grade students will learn how to determine healthy food choices during meals and snacks based on nutrition labels, portion sizes and caloric needs for their age, gender and physical activity levels.
- 7th-grade students will learn how to utilize nutrition labels to find healthy food and drink options at popular fast food restaurants.
- 8th-grade students will learn the reasons why breakfast is a vital meal and create personal strategies for overcoming obstacles to eating breakfast.
It's Your Move
This 45-minute presentation focuses on the vital role that physical activity plays in overall good health.
- 6th-grade students will learn to identify the benefits of physical activity, types of exercise and safety measures to take when physically active. They will develop a plan to achieve a personal health goal.
- 7th-grade students will learn the health benefits of being physically active as well as the risk factors associated with lack of physical activity. Guidelines for physical activity will be discussed and students will have the opportunity to develop a personal activity plan.
- 8th-grade students will learn the importance of physical activity and learn how to calculate personal target heart rate zones for various types of exercise.
