About Geoffrey Southmayd, MD
Dr. Geoff Southmayd is a native of Austin, TX. He graduated with distinction from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, and then attended medical school at the University of Texas - Health Science Center at Houston. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University, where he served as Chief Medical Resident. He then continued with Emory to complete fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology, where he was chosen to serve as Chief Cardiology Fellow and Chief Interventional Cardiology Fellow. Dr. Southmayd is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention. He joined Wellstar Cardiovascular Medicine in September 2020, and is currently on staff at Wellstar Cobb, Douglas, Paulding and Kennestone hospitals. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Southmayd enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and is an avid Duke basketball fan.

So Dr. Southmayd himself is truly amazing. I really enjoy going in and talking to him. I feel like he's listening, he's advising me well. Really great doctor. On the other hand, directly after my heart attack three months ago, there was a mix-up with my medication and just trying to communicate with the office was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a doctor's office. It took me five times to go back and forth between myself and the front office staff. It might have been six times actually. You can look at my records. Leaving messages on my chart, trying to call up, leaving at least three different voicemails. They kept sending my medication to the wrong pharmacy. They were telling me, they told me three different times they corrected that. Each time I called my pharmacy, they had no record that they could fill that prescription. It was a prescription after a heart attack.
