Reproductive Medicine & Infertility
If you have been trying to become pregnant for one year, or are age 35 and above and have tried for six months but been unable to conceive, you may be experiencing a reproductive problem. Our goal at Wellstar Reproductive Medicine & Infertility is to provide comprehensive care for patients dealing with infertility, reproductive disorders and genetics in a compassionate, understanding manner.Our fertility specialists are board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and are also certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Cardio-Obstetrics
Cardio-Obstetrics at Wellstar MCG Health is the area's first cardiology program designed to provide specialized care to pregnant women. Cardio-obstetricians are available for outpatient or inpatient evaluation.Pregnancy can be hard on a women's body, especially her heart. The increased workload of carrying a baby can cause high blood pressure, weakening of the heart or worsening of underlying heart problems (including valve abnormalities). If this happens, the cardio-obstetrics team at Wellstar MCG Health is here to support you through your pregnancy, delivery and recovery. Your care team includes an obstetrician and a cardiologist who work together to create an optimal care and delivery plan for you and your baby.
When you are pregnant, there are signs that can indicate you have (or have developed) a heart condition. If you experience any of the following symptoms, please call your obstetrician or cardiologist:
- High blood pressure
- Increased shortness of breath
- Swollen legs
- Racing heart rate
- Feeling faint (like you could pass out)

Our multidisciplinary team of gynecologists—which includes specialists at Wellstar Children’s Hospital—has the training and experience to address all your gynecologic concerns. Obstetrics
Are you pregnant or considering getting pregnant? Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center is the first hospital in Georgia to be designated by the Department of Public Health as a Level III Maternal Care Center providing the highest level of care to pregnant women. We have a staff of obstetricians and certified nurse-midwives who are ready to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women as they approach childbirth and beyond. We treat mothers with routine pregnancies, as well as mothers who have high-risk pregnancies.It’s normal to approach pregnancy and childbirth with questions and expectations. Our obstetricians understand your concerns and wishes and are here to guide you through your pregnancy journey. Not only do we strive to make childbirth as safe, comfortable and memorable for you as possible, but we also support you throughout the course of your pregnancy with regular checkups and tests, as well as during the postpartum period as you adjust to your new role of caring for an infant.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
If you are pregnant and have a condition such as diabetes or hypertension, or have multiple gestations (pregnant with more than one baby), you and your baby may be at an increased risk of complications during pregnancy.Maternal-fetal medicine physicians, or perinatologists, work collaboratively with your obstetrician to ensure you and your baby receive the highest level of care possible as you go through your pregnancy. Our fellowship-trained maternal-fetal medicine specialists care for patients with:
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Chronic health conditions
Maternal-fetal medicine physicians also see women who:
- Are pregnant with more than one baby (multiple gestations)
- Are pregnant after 35 years of age
- Have an ultrasound that shows an abnormality
Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center is one of only six centers in the state to be designated by the Department of Public Health as a referral center for high-risk maternal and neonatal care. We offer convenient access to pediatric subspecialists, state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, genetic services, high-risk support services and more.
Breast Health Center
The breast specialists at Wellstar, affiliated with Medical College of Georgia, provide the area's highest level of breast health care in the CSRA. Patients come to the Breast Health Center at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center because we offer:- The most advanced imaging technologies available, including 3D mammography
- Evaluation by board-certified, fellowship-trained breast radiologists
- Breast specialists with the highest levels of training to perform breast biopsies
- The only dedicated, fellowship-trained breast surgeons in the area
- Patient navigation from certified breast health nurse navigators. Our nurse navigators are with our patients through each phase of their breast health journey. They are available as a resource to answer questions and help guide patients through the continuum of care.
- Collaboration with Wellstar Georgia Cancer Center to achieve the best outcomes for our patients
- National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)-accredited Breast Center designation by the American College of Surgeons, which is awarded to medical centers that offer the most advanced breast cancer diagnostic and treatment options
Regular mammograms help detect breast cancer early. For women with average risk, we recommend annual screenings/mammograms every year starting at age 40. Women with a history of breast cancer in their family may get a recommendation from their doctor to begin screenings earlier. We also provide osteoporosis screenings and referrals for high-risk breast patients to a genetic counselor for consultation.
