Always treat a stroke as though it has the potential to be life-threatening. Be prepared and remember the American Stroke Association’s B.E. F.A.S.T acronym. To assess the sign and symptoms of a stroke:- Balance: Is the person dizzy or having trouble keeping their balance?
- Eyes: Is the person experiencing blurred vision or vision loss?
- Face: Is one side of the person’s face drooping? Are they able to smile?
- Arms: Are one or both arms weak? Are they drifting downward? Is the person able to raise both of their arms?
- Speech: Is the person’s speech strange or slurred? Can they repeat simple phrases?
- Time: Track the time the symptoms began and call 911.

As part of the Wellstar Health System, West Georgia Medical Center can boast one of the only neurological care programs in the United States with a dedicated neuroradiology program. Our neuroradiologists have advanced training in nervous system conditions. They use advanced imaging studies such as CT scans, MRI scans, myelograms and angiograms to diagnose nervous system tumors with as much accuracy as possible.Stroke Care
Wellstar Health System is equipped to handle the most complex stroke cases, assessing thousands of stroke patients each year. We’ve earned national recognition in the form of Beacon Awards for Excellence by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and we’re one of only a small number of neurological teams in Georgia to receive this distinction. After a stroke, follow-up care and neurological rehabilitation can help you get back to the life you love. With three neurology-focused rehabilitation centers in our network, the West Georgia stroke rehab team has access to all the resources you need to transition from the hospital back home. Our programs cover daily activities including therapy that can reteach bathing, movement, cooking and driving.
