Advanced technology & techniques
People who would benefit from radiation therapy have access to leading physicians and the most sophisticated radiation therapy techniques and technologies available today. Our world-class cancer center is home to TrueBeam technology, which delivers very high precision dosages with flexible treatment options including the capability to change the size and shape of beams to precisely target the tumor shape and minimize exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
With TrueBeam, we can perform stereotactic radiosurgery on patients with cancer in the brain, or stereotactic body radiosurgery anywhere in a patient’s body. This treatment is virtual surgery in that a tumor can be precisely destroyed with high energy X-rays while the patient rests comfortably on the treatment table. There is no need for anesthesia as the patient feels absolutely nothing during treatment, but the tumor can still be targeted and destroyed. Treatments typically take 30 minutes and since there is no cutting involved or incision to heal, there is no need for recuperation or rehabilitation. Patients receive high quality care in state-of-the-art cancer center
The Enoch Callaway Cancer Center (ECCC) program at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center underwent a $24 million renovation and consolidation of all cancer services in one location in the fall of 2020, offering our community a whole new level of services, in a beautiful setting. Made possible by the generous donations of Callaway Foundation and local businesses, residents and team members, our 40,000-square-foot facility features many benefits to patients, including a new $5 million linear accelerator in addition to the advanced radiation therapy and targeting software previously available as well as more patient exam rooms for patients of Radiation Oncology physicians. Our patients also benefit from a new resource Center to learn about cancer, which includes a Children’s Corner with age-appropriate information, technologies and special programs to help children deal with a family member’s diagnosis of cancer. Patients and their families also appreciate the new chapel and public meeting space for support groups, community outreach activities and integrated therapies such as therapeutic exercise and guided artistic expression classes.
