Robotic Large Bowel Surgery:
Minimally invasive surgical approaches to colorectal disease have been proven over the last two decades. It can no longer be argued that these laparoscopic approaches offer advantages including less pain, faster recovery, and improved cosmetic outcomes.
The DaVinci Robotic Surgical System has revolutionized the minimally invasive approach to colon surgery. This breakthrough technology provides high definition 3-D visualization with proprietary EndoWrist instrumentation allowing 360 degree manipulation of the instruments. The DaVinci System seamlessly translates the surgeon’s hand movements into more precise movements.
Our physicians have currently performed more robotic colon resections than any other physician in the state. The ability to perform minimally invasive surgery in severe inflammatory disease not possible with traditional laparoscopy along with greater access, precision, and control for improved dissections employed by high definition 3-D visualization are just two benefits of robotic over traditional surgeries that have been demonstrated within our practice. Other benefits include excellent lymph node clearance in malignant disease, minimal blood loss, and a shorter hospital stay. Patients have been thrilled with the results.
