WellStar’s partnerships with local school systems help make children in our communities healthier by providing free 45-minute school health classes for elementary school and middle school students in Marietta and Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties.
Subjects for children in all grades include fun, interactive lessons on nutrition and physical activity. Additional subjects for children in kindergarten through fifth grade include:
- Personal and dental hygiene
- Poison prevention
- Internet safety
- Water and wheel safety
- Anger management
School health classes are reinforced with educational incentive materials like pedometers, jump ropes, toothbrushes, activity books, reflective bike stickers and placemats with nutritional tips.
Parents are encouraged to participate and are provided program summary sheets and educational content they can review with their children to help implement healthy changes at home. These materials are also now available in Spanish.
WellStar’s school health programs meet the Georgia Quality Core Curriculum Objectives and are scheduled through individual schools.
